Garden waste, which is a natural product of plant life cycle, gets added to municipal solid waste and it causes burden on landfills, especially in urban areas. It is available in huge quantities. Similarly, large amounts of agro-wastes are burnt in many parts of the country leading to air pollution. It is proposed to use this waste for better applications. For the ease of transportation and handling, it can be converted to pellets or briquettes. These pellets find application as fuel in small scale process industries, but even more beneficial would be to use them in gasification based cook-stoves to replace LPG partially. The work would complement waste management initiatives in the country. The performance of these pellets is currently being studied on stratified gasifier and TERI gasifier. A new operation-friendly, emission free and feedstock specific design is envisaged.
