Chandrapur in Maharashtra is a coal mining area with severe air pollution issues. Studies have shown that other than dust from coal mining, and smoke from vehicles, the domestic use of coal cook stoves is a key source of air pollution. The team aims to develop an emission measurement setup to capture the total emission from such stoves, with portability of the measurement set-up as a unique feature for field measurements. Emission factors will be developed for PM2.5 and CO for coal cook stoves for the total cooking cycle. These measurements will help in further development and design of efficient coal cook stoves for such coal mining regions.
